Facilities update: roofing delays, ongoing construction and planned walkthroughs reported

Director of Facilities and Construction Bergie Speaks told the board that middle school roofs are installed and siding is progressing at Central Wilkes Middle School while exterior insulation and partial siding work continue at other sites. He said contractors will provide countertop and cabinet samples for selections and that Pinnacle Architectural will do a walkthrough for finished spaces.
Speaks reported an issue with Martin Roofing obtaining metal for the West Wilkes High School roofing project; that delay contributed to several leaks that required removal and replacement of insulation. He said the metal was scheduled to arrive and that roofing work would be delayed pending testing and replacement, extending completion by about one week. He also noted the sealer work at the North Wilkes High School softball concession area and bathrooms and that the Bus Garage project was expected to begin soon.
The board later approved specific roofing contracts and change orders tied to the district’s roofing portfolio, including C.C. Wright Elementary bids, a Millers Creek contract reduction, and emergency roof replacement at Wilkes Central High School.
