Rose Cox‑Galhotra, a Kings Park West Civic Association board member, said the traffic‑calming team has been reaching out to homeowners about a proposal to install speed humps and has collected signed permission slips from several affected properties.
The board emphasized that any installation will require a majority vote of affected households: "they have to have more than 50% of affected households vote yes," Cox‑Galhotra noted when outlining the requirement. She said homeowners contacted so far have been largely supportive but that there is debate over how many humps are necessary.
Cox‑Galhotra added that neighborhoods that create a website explaining the process have tended to have more success gaining neighbor approval, and Helen Santoro offered to help put together a website to support outreach. She also said the Commonwealth Swim Club has indicated support and will raise the issue with its board.
As a next step, the association plans for the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) to host a community meeting to present technical details and gather broader public input. The board did not take a formal vote at the meeting; members said they will continue homeowner outreach and coordinate scheduling for the FCDOT meeting.
