TDA outlines 2026 Yadkin Valley Roots Festival, mural plan and other local projects

Event planning and small public‑art projects dominated new business at the Yadkinville Tourism Development Authority meeting on Jan. 13.
Event planner Lauren Willard said the 2026 Yadkin Valley Roots Festival, part of the America 250 initiative, is slated for Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24, with Friday evening featuring food trucks and a concert and Saturday devoted to a full day celebrating Yadkin County’s heritage. Willard said she hopes to include all municipalities in Yadkin County in the festival’s activities.
Willard also announced the Fill the Basket Easter Fest set for March 28 at 11:00 a.m., which will include a food drive, Easter egg hunts and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.
Chair John Willingham told the board that an artist has been selected for a second downtown mural on the W.N. Ireland Insurance building; the floral‑themed mural is planned for spring. The Wall Mural Committee has requested a $5,000 contribution from the building owner and has asked the TDA to provide $5,000 or potentially more depending on the project’s total cost. No formal funding decision was made at the meeting.
Board members also asked about integration with the NCDOT roundabout project; Town Clerk Alex Potts said there has been discussion but no final plans and that Manager Mike Koser could provide more detail. Mr. Samuel Stone asked about a park feasibility study for pickleball courts; Potts said she would follow up with Manager Koser and report back.
The board made no formal decisions on festival funding, mural contributions, roundabout features or park improvements during the Jan. 13 meeting. The meeting adjourned at approximately 10:30 a.m.
