Town staff briefed the Select Board on March 18 about the financial results from the March 2026 town meeting and the likely impact on the municipal portion of the tax rate.
Staff reported gross appropriations of $39,266,669 and estimated revenues of about $21.3 million. Using preliminary assumptions, staff calculated a municipal tax-rate impact of $3.82 per $1,000 of assessed value — an estimated municipal-rate increase of roughly 18.9% under the numbers presented. For a $300,000 home, staff estimated a municipal increase of approximately $182.39 based on the current draft figures.
Town staff emphasized those are preliminary estimates. Key variables that will be finalized in the fall include the audited fund balance, any late grant awards or fees, the overlay/abatement account and the final assessed valuation. The board also heard that the assessing office had estimated an overlay increase this year of about $150,000 and that new or expanded veteran exemption levels could increase related credits by roughly $50,000.
"The estimated tax rate impact for 2026 with these numbers at this time is $3.82," town staff told the board, noting the final tax rate will be set in early September once audit and final revenue figures are available.
What’s next: Staff will complete routine accounting work, deliver audit numbers when available, and return in September with final tax-rate calculations. The board asked staff to publish the one-page summary on the town website to help residents understand the financial outcomes of the town meeting.
