Medford Lakes board approves personnel changes, $11,041 in IDEA preschool funds and contracts

The Medford Lakes Board of Education approved several personnel and finance items at its Dec. 20 meeting.
On a motion by Dana Schultz, seconded by Kevin Kerfoot, the board approved a maternity leave extension for Lauren Case for the remainder of the 2023–24 school year, an unpaid leave for teacher Jennifer York for Jan. 3, 2024, and placed Employee #15130 on unpaid administrative leave for Dec. 7–8, 2023. The board also approved the district’s Uniform State Memorandum of Agreement between Education and Law Enforcement Officials. The roll-call vote on the personnel package was five ayes and zero nays.
In finance actions, the board accepted Board Secretary and Treasurer reports for November and authorized payment of bills and November budget transfers. The board approved IDEA Preschool FY24 funds of $11,041 to support salaries for four specified staff members (Courtney Haney; Valerie McDevitt; Jillian Mitchell; Renee Sweet). The board also authorized a contract with Kingsway Learning Center to purchase an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) evaluation for an out-of-district student (student #101737) and approved voiding and replacing two stale or erroneous checks as listed in the minutes.
The minutes record a motion by the Business Administrator’s recommendation and a roll-call vote showing five ayes. Professional development approvals were recorded separately and included staff registrations for Rowan University courses and a course titled "How Educators Can Use ChatGPT" for Heather Summerville and Superintendent Anthony Dent (Jan. 9, 2024).
