Parents press Medford Lakes School District on discipline, HIB appeal

Darryl Patterson told the board he believed punishments were distributed inequitably after a physical altercation involving his son and another student. "I am concerned about what I see as an uneven distribution of punishment in this incident," Patterson said during the public-comment period, urging the board to ensure consistent consequences.
Brianne Allen said her daughter has been targeted by another student and that an HIB appeal remained unresolved, which she said has caused the family stress. Allen pressed the district for accountability and requested due-process protections for her child, saying teachers and students should be held to clear standards.
Board members did not take public action on the individual discipline cases during the open meeting. After routine business the board voted to recess into an executive session to discuss personnel matters that the resolution described as involving students, consistent with the New Jersey Open Public Meetings Act. The public record notes only that the closed session concerned employment and student-related matters; no additional details were disclosed when the board returned to open session.
The board did not announce further public follow-up on the two cases during the meeting.
