Yadkinville board approves consent items, reappoints volunteers and sets spring events

At the March 2 meeting, the Yadkinville Board of Commissioners approved routine business items and made several reappointments.
The board approved a consent agenda that included one tax void totaling $5.47, a budget amendment for $18,700 and an invoice for $6,593.04 after a motion from Commissioner Chris Matthews and a second from Commissioner Richie Parker; the vote was 4-0. Commissioner Monta Davis-Oliver successfully moved to reappoint Danny Coe to the Planning Board/Board of Adjustment for a four-year term; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Richie Parker and passed unanimously. Davis-Oliver also moved to reappoint Sam Stone and Issac Pelagio to one-year terms on the Tourism Development Authority; both motions were seconded by Commissioner Chris Matthews and approved 4-0.
Fire representative Patrick Long said call volume increased in the past month and reported a significant blaze at Unifi’s T5 location. Police Chief Philip Scott reported higher call volumes, said suspects in an August larceny at the Valero Gas Station have been identified and arrested, and noted sale of three surplus police vehicles that generated $9,650 for the department. Public Works Director Jacob Swaim reported that the town installed 42 water taps and 28 sewer taps in 2025 and has completed four water taps and three sewer taps so far in 2026.
Event Planner Lauren Willard outlined an Easter Fest scheduled March 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., said another mural will be painted at 113 E. Main Street, and asked that a board member attend a March 11 feedback meeting for the Yadkin Valley Wellness Foundation.
With no further business, the board adjourned at approximately 6:40 p.m.
