Maywood Board approves consent agenda covering payroll, personnel hires and special services
Summary
In a 7–0 vote the Maywood Board approved a consent block of routine motions including acceptance of drills, HIB follow-through, multiple staff appointments and leaves, special-services contracts, and a November payroll and check run totaling more than $1.5 million in disbursements.
The Maywood Board of Education on Nov. 20 approved a broad consent agenda that bundled dozens of routine personnel, finance and program items into a single motion and passed it unanimously.
The block motion (BL.6), moved by Board President Mr. Taylor and seconded by Mr. Bendezu, approved items listed on the Nov. 20 agenda including acceptance of recorded October fire and evacuation drills; HIB determination follow-through; conference attendance; facility use requests; multiple special-services contracts (developmental and psychological evaluations, hospital instruction); several paraprofessional and teacher appointments (pending clearance); maternity and other leaves; stipend corrections and new paraprofessional positions; and financial actions including a November check run and payroll.
Financial approvals recorded in the minutes include a November general check run of $1,564,179.88 and cafeteria bills of $63,196.51. Payroll figures reported in the minutes show Fund 10 payroll of $1,113,828.33 and Fund 20 payroll of $5,209.26, and the minutes list a total payroll expense of $1,203,706.12 that includes employer payroll contributions.
The consent agenda also authorized specific service contracts and personnel costs: a 1:1 out-of-district aide at 154 days at $278 per diem (total $42,812), a paraprofessional through Region V at $40 per hour for six hours per day through 6/17/25 (total $35,040), hospital instruction at $58.75 per hour (up to 40 hours; total $587.50), and psychological/educational evaluations at $750 per evaluation (one item totaling $1,500).
Three motions were excepted from the block and voted on separately: acceptance of minutes from 8/21/24 (A.74) passed with a recorded vote of 4–0 and three abstentions; acceptance of minutes from 10/16/24 (A.112) passed 6–0 with one abstention; and approval of Maywood Avenue School Students of the Month (A.113) passed 6–0 with one abstention.
The board set tentative reorganization meeting dates for Jan. 6 or Jan. 7 and recorded no further debate on the consent items in the minutes.
