The Medford Lakes Board of Education took a slate of routine but substantive actions at its Oct. 16 meeting, approving policy changes, personnel decisions and multiple finance items by roll-call vote.
The board approved the Sept. 18, 2024 business meeting and executive session minutes on a motion by Kevin Kerfoot, seconded by Dana Schultz. The board approved second readings and revisions of numerous policies (including P 0141 series on board member numbers and terms; P 0164.6 on remote meetings; P 2200 on curriculum content; P& R 3160/4160 on physical examinations; R 5200 on attendance; P 5337 on service animals; P 5350 on student suicide prevention; and others) by roll call (5–0).
Personnel approvals included unpaid leaves for part-time ICAs and custodial staff, winter sports coach appointments, an occupational-therapy shadowing approval, an FMLA/NJFLA leave for Storm Vanderzee, and adjustments to part-time ICA pay. The board also approved 2024–25 admin and teacher representatives and named Laura Tucker as a part-time ICA at an adjusted hourly rate.
On finance the board approved payment of bills, budget transfers for August and September, and certifications pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:23A-16.10 that no line-item accounts exceeded appropriations. The board approved professional-development reimbursements, out-of-district placements and contracts (including student #101404 at Moorestown Township for $36,483.00 and, in the addendum, student #101524 at Cinnaminson Township for $61,304.31), a voided check to Studies Weekly, designation of Amy Collins as Wellness Grant Coordinator with a $2,500 stipend, the M-1 form and three-year maintenance plan, and the use of Extraordinary Aid funds of $48,244.00 for tuition and transportation costs. Facilities use requests for Home & School and the Medford Lakes Education Foundation were also approved.
Votes and motions: Most motions were made by board member Kevin Kerfoot and seconded by Dana Schultz; recorded roll-call tallies for the listed motions were 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent, 0 abstain. The board later adopted Resolution 2025-03E to enter executive session for personnel matters and recessed to closed session at 7:54 p.m., returning and adjourning at 8:24 p.m.
What’s next: No contested votes were recorded; the board will proceed with the approved contracts, placements and plans. The executive session addressed personnel matters; no further public action was recorded at the meeting.
