Thorp approves police chief’s leadership training; department reports hiring progress

The Thorp City Council approved Police Chief Pries’s request to attend the Supervisory Leadership Institute (S.L.I.) Sept. 29–Oct. 3 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The course fee is $795, with $320 reimbursable by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Training & Support Bureau; the chief indicated he would cover portions of the expense and the council approved the attendance and listed expenses 5–0.
During the monthly reports, Police Chief Pries also informed the council that three interviews were scheduled for a Police Officer vacancy and that he was evaluating replacement options for his department’s printer/scanner; Mayor Richard Wnek requested an additional bid for the equipment.
The council approved the chief’s training request and related expense arrangement but did not take action on hiring or equipment purchases during the meeting.
