Thorp council approves levy carryforward, reviews budget draft and accepts public works resignation

At its Oct. 13 meeting the Thorp City Council approved a resolution to carry forward prior-year unused levy capacity, reviewed the 2026 General Fund operating budget draft and accepted a Public Works Department resignation.
A motion by Alderperson Rosemeyer, seconded by Alderperson Lawcewicz, approved Resolution 2025-10-02 authorizing the carry forward of allowable prior-year unused levy capacity; the motion passed 5–0. Clerk/Treasurer Michele Pogodzinski then briefly reviewed the first draft of the 2026 General Fund operating budget and outlined the timeline for adoption; council did not vote on the budget at this meeting.
Council also accepted the resignation of Jacob Wissell from the Public Works Department and authorized staff to advertise the vacancy (motion by Alderperson Lawcewicz, seconded by Alderperson Abramczak; motion passed 5–0).
The council moved into closed session under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c) to consider the potential hiring of a police officer and proposed 2026 pay rates for listed employees; votes to enter and exit closed session were recorded as 5–0. After returning to open session, the minutes state that no action was taken on the matters discussed in closed session.
The council adjourned at 8:34 p.m.
