Thorp council approves one-day liquor-license amendment for Early Bird’s Pub & Grub opening

The Thorp City Council voted 5–0 Aug. 11 to approve a one-day amendment to Early Bird’s Pub & Grub’s liquor license for a grand-opening event on Sept. 13, 2025.
Owner Dennis Helfert asked the council for permission to have a band play outside from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and to allow patrons to walk outside the building with drinks, while clarifying the restaurant would not serve drinks outside. Council required a barrier be placed on the property to keep patrons contained in the parking lot area. Alderperson Lawcewicz moved the measure and Alderperson Abramczak seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Richard Wnek and council members did not add additional conditions beyond the barrier; the council did not receive opposition during the meeting.
