During the RSU 23 board meeting on July 16, 2014 at Old Orchard Beach High School, superintendent Lloyd Crocker told the board that staff members Mike Flaherty and Barbara Fletcher had researched a Head Start program and that funding is now available. Chair Gary Curtis asked for two clarifications before a board vote: whether the district (or the program) could accept a one‑year commitment now, and whether RSU 23 insurance would cover an outside entity operating on district property. Crocker said Mike Flaherty would provide those answers; Curtis said the topic could be pre-presented or taken up at the Aug. 12 board meeting.
Crocker read a list of recommended new hires to the board for approval. The minutes list the candidates and positions as follows: Jameson Elementary — Tracey McLaughlin, school counselor; Megan Huckins, special education; Elaine Lees, 3rd grade; Erin Coffey, 2nd grade. Loranger Middle School — Trevor Lavenbien, instrumental music; Billy Corcoran, 4th grade; Brittany Neal, choral music. Old Orchard Beach High School — John Suttie, principal; Meghan Ward, assistant principal. The minutes indicate the slate was presented "to the Board for approval" but do not record a separate roll-call vote in the text.
The board also reviewed a packet regarding the transfer of the Saco Transition Program, a program for high-school‑age students that the district currently pays Saco to provide because many Old Orchard Beach students attend. Crocker said the packet will be reviewed and the item discussed at the Aug. 12 meeting.
A motion to adjourn was made by Stuart Hogan, seconded by Peter Flaherty; the minutes record the motion carried unanimously and the meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
