RSU 23’s board met at Old Orchard Beach High School on July 16, 2014, and recorded passage of the district’s 2014–2015 budget by a tally shown in the minutes as 254 to 148.
Superintendent Lloyd Crocker reported on the district’s recent Maine Principals’ Association retreat, saying its focus was proficiency-based education and that the district aims to implement those standards over a multiyear timeline. He noted the district may apply for an extension until 2021, while current standards target implementation by 2018. Crocker also announced an administrative retreat scheduled for Aug. 7–8 and said he would report the outcome at the August board meeting.
The minutes list attendees including School Board Chair Gary Curtis and board members Jerome Plante, Carolyn Marcotte, Peter Flaherty and Stuart Hogan. The meeting opened at 6:00 p.m. and began with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The minutes record the budget vote total but do not provide a roll-call of individual votes tied to that tally. The board set follow-up items and will continue regular business at the board’s next scheduled meeting on Aug. 12, 2014.
