RSU 23 accepts resignation, recognizes student commendation and announces election details

At its Oct. 14 meeting the RSU 23 board accepted a resignation, recognized an Old Orchard Beach High School student’s National Merit commendation, announced local election and candidates-night details, appointed a scholarship committee member, and requested safety-procedure review; motions were unanimous.
The RSU 23 School Board on Oct. 14 accepted a letter of resignation from Sarah Gaetani and recorded a special presentation honoring Jessica Greenleaf, a student at Old Orchard Beach High School, who received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Committee for placing in the top 5% nationally on the PSAT.
Jerome Plante moved to accept Gaetani’s resignation; Peter Flaherty seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Principal John Suttie presented the National Merit commendation to Jessica Greenleaf during a special-presentation portion of the meeting.
Chair Gary Curtis announced that one seat on the school board and one seat on the town council will appear on the Nov. 4, 2014 ballot, with polling at Old Orchard Beach High School from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; absentee ballots were noted as available. Curtis also said the high school will host a candidates night Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. for Michelle Violette and David Boudreau; the event will be shown on channel 3.
The board appointed Carol Marcotte to the Scholarship Committee’s Board of Trustees. Curtis asked Superintendent Lloyd Crocker and the Safety Committee to convene to review procedures in the event of an infectious-disease outbreak; the board also noted contract-negotiation materials in the meeting packet and deferred appointing negotiators until a new board member is seated.
Chairman Curtis moved to adjourn; the motion carried unanimously. Minutes were prepared by Pam Ouellette and respectfully submitted by Superintendent Lloyd Crocker.
