Brookfield select board embraces naming of McGinley Road for longtime town clerk

The Brookfield select board embraced a recommendation to name a road McGinley Road to honor longtime town clerk Virginia, a board member said at the meeting.

"She gave us 30 years worth of dedication," select board member Britt Zacker said, summarizing the honoree's decades of service that began "in her kitchen as tax collector" and continued in successive town offices. Zacker said the board received the recommendation and "embraced it."

The naming recognizes roughly 30 years of work in town administration, Zacker said, including time spent in the old town office and later in the new building. Zacker recounted that the clerk knew residents personally — asking where they lived and who their neighbors were — and handled routine tasks such as issuing dump stickers.

A participant at the meeting noted that the town's road agent already has the sign and "he's gonna put it up top," signaling the next step in formalizing the name. Family members and attendees responded with thanks. "It means the world to us," one attendee said.
