The Ways and Means committee voted July 7 to approve a design contract for improvements along North Main Street, a staff presenter said.
"This is a project that advances improvements along North Main Street where existing conditions present ongoing safety concerns, accessibility challenges, and gaps in multimodal infrastructure," presenter Chris told the committee while introducing the contract to Full Design Group LLC for the design phase.
Staff said the design work will focus on safety, ADA accessibility and multimodal connections and will build on prior planning efforts and community input. The design phase is funded by STEP funds and was presented as approximately $1,500,000; staff cautioned that the full corridor work will be phased depending on additional funding.
Committee members asked whether the engineering work would incorporate recommendations from earlier North Main Street studies; Chris confirmed the design phase would build off that prior work and that specific elements will be added as funding allows. "This builds off of that," Chris said when asked how the new contract aligns with previous planning.
A motion to approve item 3 was made, seconded and passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff said the design contract will move forward with community engagement, ADA review and phasing aligned to funding availability.
