Temple Historic District Commission continues review of draft ordinance to allow expanded participation

Chair Lilliane Lebel called the Jan. 28 meeting of the Temple Historic District Commission to order and led a continuation of discussion on revisions to the commission's draft ordinance. Lilliane Lebel, chair, said she had revised the formatting of the first four sections and provided those edits to members for review ahead of the next meeting. Members discussed the history of the HDC's creation and how the current Historic District was established, and several commissioners flagged a desire to create a process that would allow additional historic-property owners in Temple to opt into the district.

Commission members agreed to review the revised sections and come prepared to discuss substantive changes at the next meeting. No formal vote or adoption of ordinance language occurred; the item remains under review with further edits to be circulated by the chair prior to the commission's February meeting. The session included guests Yvette and Robert Schubert, who were introduced as new full-time residents of the “Blacksmith House” and said they would observe the commission's work.

The commission scheduled follow-up work and requested members provide detailed feedback on the revised draft so the body can consider specific language that would govern eligibility or opt-in procedures at a subsequent meeting.
