Surry selectmen appoint Jay Croteau chair, approve driveway permit and handle routine town business

The Surry selectmen met on March 17, 2025, and unanimously elected Selectman Jay Croteau chair and Selectman Steve Goldsmith alternate chair. The board also accepted the meeting minutes, signed payroll and bills, and approved a driveway application for Wayne Brown.
The meeting, called to order at 7:00 P.M., was attended by Selectmen Jay Croteau, Steve Goldsmith and Ron Profaizer. The selectmen agreed to accept the minutes (motion by Selectman Steve Goldsmith; seconded by Selectman Jay Croteau) and to approve Wayne Brown's driveway application (motion by Selectman Jay Croteau; seconded by Selectman Ron Profaizer). Each motion was recorded as agreed by the selectmen; no roll-call tallies were provided in the minutes.
The board handled a series of administrative items: the town clerk will complete form MS-123; signed Town Meeting minutes, MS-20 and signed MS-232 appropriations were uploaded to the state; Fidlar was updated for the Cheshire County Registry of Deeds; and copies of tax cards for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property were sent to the state for the flood control property assessment and payment-in-lieu-of-taxes process. Avitar was noted to be working on solar values, a boundary line adjustment and map updates.
Selectman Ron Profaizer was assigned to update the town website; among changes recorded were posting the Groundwater Protection Ordinance and adding a raffle ticket application. The board received a septic plan from 'Septic Pro' for the Gibbons/Kwedor property (under review for soil, well and brook) and noted a proposed Gross/Welnak building/driveway permit for which the town received check #43 in the amount of $316.35 but had not yet processed the permit; the driveway permit requires correction before processing.
During the meeting John Berlgund raised the town's procedures for reimbursing employee purchases and suggested options including issuing a town credit card, increasing petty cash, or appointing a purchasing agent. The selectmen decided not to appoint a purchasing agent and not to pursue a town credit card; no alternative purchasing agent was authorized.
Other business included sending Intents to Excavate for Anyan and Cushing to the state, a broadband correspondence reply from Ron Profaizer to Matt Everson about broadband reaching Surry, and Wayne Hartz downloading election information from the New Hampshire Secretary of State. The selectmen moved to adjourn (motion by Selectman Ron Profaizer; seconded by Selectman Steve Goldsmith) and ended the meeting at 9:15 P.M. Ron Profaizer noted he will be absent from the March 25, 2025 meeting.
