Mid-Valley Fire chief warns of drier season, announces new pumper and requests town support for community dance

Fire Chief Ted Jenkins told the Town of Thayne council on April 15 that this spring’s limited snowmelt could bring drier conditions earlier than usual and might affect fireworks availability for the Fourth of July.
Jenkins proposed a pre-fireworks community dance in the community center parking lot near the mural to mark the USA’s 250th anniversary, running roughly 6:00 to 11:30 p.m., and asked that the town split a $300 fee for music and equipment provided by "Duke." The council agreed to cover the full $300 cost rather than splitting it with the fire district.
Jenkins also presented the department’s annual report: the Mid-Valley Fire District responded to 109 calls in its service area last year, including structure fires, and the district will house a new 4-wheel-drive Class A pumper capable of carrying 1,000 gallons in Thayne. Jenkins said the department completed an ISO audit with promising results that should improve district ratings.
Council members affirmed continued collaboration on parade and pancake breakfast activities and did not attach additional conditions to Jenkins’s requests at the meeting.
