Shell Lake council approves part-time police chief, permits and grant application

At its Sept. 8 meeting the Shell Lake City Council created a permanent part-time chief of police position, approved facility and liquor licenses, authorized a Clean Boats, Clean Waters grant application and approved modest facility repairs; all motions passed unanimously.
The Shell Lake City Council on Sept. 8, 2025 approved several administrative and operational actions, including creating a permanent part-time chief of police position and authorizing staff to seek applicants.
Council member Mike Andrews moved, seconded by Tom Rasmussen, to create the position and direct the city administrator to advertise; the motion passed unanimously. City Administrator Andrew Eiche was directed to begin advertising for the role.
On facilities and administration the council approved replacement of the back door at city hall with a cost not to exceed $3,500, to come from the city hall upkeep account. Stephen Smith moved and Ken Schultz seconded that purchase; the motion carried unanimously. Smith also moved approval of vouchers numbered 984–1140 and the council approved a Class A beer and a Class C wine license for CO% LLC doing business as Corner of Fifth.
The council approved a slate of temporary licenses for Shell Lake Arts Center events running October 2025 through April 2026, including concerts and variety shows. The governing body also authorized City Administrator Andrew Eiche to submit a Clean Boats, Clean Waters Project Funding Request and Agreement on the city’s behalf; that roll-call vote was unanimous.
Other procedural items included conditionally allowing Mayor Hansberger to accept a ukulele donation pending review by the league attorney and confirmation the gift complies with state statute limits on gift value. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
