Residents ask whether Dyke Road subdivision has wetlands permit; board advises DES complaint option

Richard and Claudia Hunt stopped into the May 12, 2025 Sugar Hill Select Board meeting to ask whether a wetlands permit had been filed for a proposed subdivision on Dyke Road and said they believed water was currently running through test pits dug previously.
The board advised the Hunts that, as residents, they may file a complaint with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) at any time. The minutes state that a wetlands file does not yet exist for the project and that the Town Engineer has met with the property owners and the Road Agent to outline driveway and site requirements.
Meeting minutes summarized the steps the Planning Board and applicants must complete before final approval: the land subdivision process and checklist, possible alteration of terrain permits, hydrology testing and engagement of a wetland scientist to identify plants, soils, water table levels and intermittent streams. The board said it will continue to monitor the project.
No enforcement action or permit filing was recorded in the minutes; the Hunts’ concern was noted as a public inquiry and the board provided procedural guidance rather than a regulatory determination.
