Public commenters urge heat‑wave planning and propose farmer trailer sites; treasurer announces upcoming retirement

During public comment on July 6, residents raised two community concerns and the Clerk Treasurer announced her planned departure.

Claude Rote proposed placing trailers at several short‑term sites (including an Arbor River Road lot and the Johnson Lake shelter house) to let farmers collect pumpkins and other goods for later pickup; staff said site reservation and park‑application processes are administrative matters and encouraged Mr. Rote to work with city staff on dates, locations and duration. "I just want to make sure they didn't interfere with anything you had going on," Mr. Rote said; staff advised coordinating dates and times with public‑safety and parks staff.

Jan Beatrice urged the city to develop a proactive plan for extreme heat, noting many residents lack air conditioning and that heat mortality can exceed cold deaths; she asked the board to consider cooling‑center hours and outreach beyond standard daytime operations. The mayor and staff said the city coordinates advisories and partners with Salvation Army but agreed to continue examining options for summer heat response.

Clerk Treasurer Shirley announced she and her husband are relocating near family in Columbus and that she plans to leave at the end of October/early November 2026 but will remain through budget season and assist with training. The mayor and board members thanked Shirley for her years of service and applauded her contributions to the city’s finance operations.
