Board approves street‑closure resolutions for three upcoming events

The Board of Public Works and Safety on July 6 approved three event‑related resolutions that establish street and parking closures for large downtown events this summer and fall.
Staff read Resolution 2026‑27B, authorizing closure of Vaughn Drive between Ferry Street and the east side of the Madison–Milton Bridge on Oct. 3, 2026, for a golf‑cart and ATV poker run; the organizer estimated about 1,000 attendees and said proceeds support riverfront improvements. The board approved the resolution.
The board considered Resolution 2026‑28B for the Madison Chautauqua footprint (Sept. 26–27, 2026). Event organizer Kara said the footprint mirrors last year, described shuttle and online parking‑payment plans and the use of resident parking passes, and the board amended Mill Street language to keep a southern portion open for through traffic before approving the resolution as amended.
Staff also presented Resolution 2026‑29B for Thornton's Bike Show (Aug. 30, 2026). Amanda Curler, an event representative, confirmed the show will support CASA; the board amended Central Avenue closure language (closing at Bond Drive rather than from 1st to Vaughn) and approved the resolution as amended.
Board members stressed coordination with police, traffic control, and signage; staff and event organizers said they would continue logistics planning, food‑truck permitting and enforcement of parking restrictions. All three resolutions passed on voice votes.
