Slinger board reviews draft open-space plan, hears forestry and recreation updates

On April 13 Parks Director Tony Dobson asked board members to review Draft #1 of the updated Open Space Plan ahead of a May 11 presentation by Vandewalle & Associated; supervisors also reported spring tree plantings, a Conservation Celebration on April 22, and recreation-season updates including a Farmers Market handoff and a May 9 community Rummage Sale with about 25 participants.
Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director Tony Dobson asked the board on April 13 to review Draft #1 of the Village’s updated Open Space Plan and email errors or corrections ahead of a May 11 meeting when Vandewalle & Associated will be in attendance to present the draft.
Dobson also presented a stakeholder interview summary prepared by Vandewalle & Associated and said the consultant’s positive feedback about Village parks would be incorporated into the updated plan. Board members were asked to read the draft closely and prepare questions for the Vandewalle review at the May meeting.
In other business, Parks Supervisor Josh Feller reported spring planting is scheduled to begin; he said 16 new trees will be planted at Breuer Park this month and the department expects about 40 new trees in total for 2026. Feller invited the board to a Conservation Celebration on Wednesday, April 22 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at Breuer Park to mark Earth Day, Arbor Day and Bird City Wisconsin; a tree planting and entertainment by local Girl Scouts are planned.
Director Dobson read a recreation report prepared by Supervisor Van Maanen: the summer 2026 Activity Guide has been released, concession stands will open the week of April 13, and little-league practices are set to begin the following week. The department will coordinate Slinger's Farmers Market this season. The community Rummage Sale is scheduled for May 9 and currently has approximately 25 registered participants.
Board member Bob Stuettgen asked when speed bumps would be installed at Rotary Park; Supervisor Feller said they will be installed soon. Stuettgen also noted a newly installed water filling station at Community Park; Feller confirmed it was installed that day and operational.
The board set its next meeting for Monday, May 11, 2026, when Vandewalle staff are expected to review the draft Open Space Plan in person.
