Dog control officer reports yearly activity; board notes unsatisfactory Humane Society inspection

At the Dec. 10 Little Falls Town Board meeting, Dog Control Officer Greg Foster summarized his work over the past year and described changes to his reporting and county role.
Foster said he attempts to locate owners of stray dogs before taking animals to the Humane Society and told the board he “will start turning in monthly DL18 reports.” He also said he is willing to discuss recent matters with the county and that he is no longer the county investigator.
Supervisor Daniel Casler noted the Herkimer County Humane Society had undergone a state inspection that was found unsatisfactory and that a follow-up inspection is scheduled in 30 days. Casler said the town will adhere to the sheltering contract it approved last year and that Attorney Macri has sent a letter to the Humane Society informing them of the town’s position.
The board did not engage in further public discussion on the matter at the meeting. No formal action on animal-control contracts or sheltering arrangements was recorded in the minutes; Casler said the issue “doesn’t need to be discussed” at length during this meeting.
