Broadview trustees approve bills, equipment purchase and a slate of appointments

Broadview's Village Board on July 1 approved routine payments, authorized a capital replacement for the fire department and confirmed several personnel moves, the board said.
The board approved two AP warrant lists: one for the period ending July 1, 2026, with a reported total of approximately $410,000 and major vendors including Blue Cross Blue Shield ($199,510.51) and Edwin Hancock Engineering ($77,032.68); and a second for the period ending June 9, 2026, totaling $244,461.52. Finance Chair Trustee Abraham read the lists and the board approved payment by roll call, first 5–0 (Trustee Miller absent at the first vote) and later 6–0 after Miller arrived.
The board authorized the purchase of a Stryker Power Cot for the Broadview Fire Department at a cost of $40,873.43. Fire Chief Martin said the replacement is for the department's 2015 cot and that the ambulance cot is motorized to reduce manual lifting. Chief Martin said the village has two grant sources for the purchase: a $15,000 reimbursement from the village's insurance carrier (ICRMT) and a state fire marshal small-equipment grant; those reimbursements will reduce the net fiscal impact, he said. Mayor Katrina R. Thompson thanked the department for securing grant support.
The board also approved a slate of appointments and promotions:
- Clifford M. Russell was appointed police commander after a national search; Chief Mills described Russell's 25-plus years of policing experience and community-policing work. The motion carried unanimously.
- Police officer Juan Garcia was promoted to sergeant, was administered the oath and the board congratulated him. Chief Mills described Garcia's hiring in 2023, academy training and subsequent mentorship and testing.
- Duanna Love was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals and sworn in; Mayor Thompson said Love's resume and interview panel feedback recommended her for the role.
- Pamela Langdon Howard was appointed to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners; Mayor Thompson cited Howard's more than 25 years in human-resources work and said swearing will occur at a later date.
- Andre Moffitt was appointed to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners; Thompson said Moffitt is a dean of students in Proviso District 209 and will help with youth recruitment and career pathways. He was sworn in at the meeting.
The board established and approved a consent agenda that included authorization for Trustee travel to the National League of Cities "Women in Municipal Government" conference and a business-license application for Growth Salon LLC at 1718 West Roosevelt Road; an applicant representative confirmed the business will operate as a hair salon.
No public commenters signed up for the meeting, Clerk Mr. Clark said. The board adjourned after Mayor Thompson closed the meeting, with a final roll call and a unanimous vote to adjourn.
