Sunshine Martin elected chair of Halifax County Recreation Advisory Committee

Sunshine Martin was elected chair of the Halifax County Recreation Advisory Committee on June 11, following a unanimous 5–0 vote by committee members present.
The vote came at the start of the committee’s first meeting of the calendar year, where Supervisor Claiborne nominated Martin and Olivia Epps seconded the motion. The motion carried with five members voting in favor and no opposing or abstaining votes.
Committee members present were Sunshine Martin; Jeffrey Irby; Michelle Johnson; Olivia Epps; and Supervisor Claiborne. Absent members included Levar Medley, Wood Bane, and Anthony Womack.
The committee will take the lead on evaluating consultant proposals for the Edmonds Park planning project and will make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors; County Administrator Verron “Ron” Brade said the selection process will be deliberate and follow procurement rules. The meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
