The Cochran City Council approved an amended agenda at the start of its May 7 work session that added discussion of a traffic-calming request for Peach Street. Lonnie Tedders moved to approve the amended agenda and Rufus Veal seconded; the motion passed.
Interim City Manager Angela Redding reported the Accounts Payable Specialist has started and staff are working through a seven-month backlog in entering expenses into the general ledger; the council noted the goal of budget adoption before July 1 and that special-called meetings may be required. Administrative staff highlighted urgency on technology-grant device selection because some consumer devices do not meet required processor/cybersecurity specifications; councilmembers were asked to confirm device choices for ordering.
Councilwoman Dianne Lester raised the possibility of tax relief for seniors on fixed incomes and Redding said guidance typically comes from the Tax Commissioner and staff will follow up. The council discussed recognizing employee service anniversaries and cited Matt Hancock’s 10-year milestone as a likely first recognition at the May 12 meeting.
Mayor Pro Tempore Shane Savant moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:34 PM; Councilwoman Trecia Gardner seconded and the council approved adjournment.
