Council to seek authorization to execute quitclaim deed to resolve boundary near fire station

Mayor Carla Coley reviewed a long-standing boundary issue involving a parcel adjacent to the Cochran fire station that previously included an old jail-like structure and was later acquired at public auction by Jeff Reagan. The council discussed that an original property line appears to run through an area near the fire station, including a lean-to and a former gas pump/tank area, and noted the city currently pays land rent related to a fire-department training trailer on the adjoining property.
Council members emphasized transitioning verbal arrangements into written documentation. The council asked staff to search for any existing written rent or land agreement and agreed to ask for authorization at the May 12 regular meeting to execute a Quit Claim deed to resolve the matter; Jeff Reagan would execute a corresponding deed for his portion. Public Works Director Willie Farrow was referenced as staff resource for property measurements and records research.
The action planned for May 12 would be an authorization request only; no deed was executed during the May 7 work session. Council members instructed staff to present any located agreements and a briefing at the regular meeting so the council can decide whether to proceed.
