Carter County commission adopts 2024-25 budget, approves tax levy and multiple grants and contracts

(22-1). - Approval of a Litter grant contract for $49,700 (23-0). - Approval of the Health Department DGA contract for $943,000 (23-0). - Approval of surplus property disposals and property transfers, including three sheriff27s office vehicles and transfer of property from the General Sessions Judge27s Office to the Circuit Court Clerk (all motions carried unanimously).
On procurement and administrative policy, the Financial Management Committee motion to issue an RFP and conduct interviews for insurance brokers for FY 2025-26 passed 16-7 after debate.
Commissioner Angie Odom used the commissioner comments period to explain her vote against the nonprofit appropriations, saying that some applicants were denied small requests while others received substantially larger awards and urging more equitable treatment.
Next procedural steps recorded at the meeting included routine follow-ups: grant application submissions where authorized, contract execution for approved agreements, and the county attorney preparing any required legal correspondence.
