County told communications tower at White Rock delayed; commissioners ask mayor to contact federal lawmakers

At the Sept. 16 meeting Mark Ridings provided an update on the county communications project, saying progress is contingent on the award of an outstanding grant. He introduced Shane Erickson, regional manager for Motorola, who explained reasons for delays in equipment delivery and site work.
Erickson said the county could not install the White Rock tower until the U.S. Forest Service approved the site. He also cautioned that ordering radios now would start their warranties while the system remains unused; that could waste warranty time, he said, and Motorola would therefore wait to ship until the system was ready. Erickson added that Motorola would honor the 2022 pricing and said he would forward a copy of the contract to the county finance director.
Following the update, commissioners approved a motion by Brad Johnson, second by Avery Wynn requesting Mayor Woodby contact U.S. senators and representatives to explore working with the U.S. Forest Service on the White Rock tower. The motion passed 23–1 (Donnie Cable opposed).
The county’s immediate next steps recorded in the meeting were to await final grant award decisions and for the mayor’s office to reach out to federal lawmakers; no construction or procurement action beyond that outreach was authorized during the meeting.
