Hopkinton selects GZA for on-call engineering services after 7 bids

The Hopkinton Town Council approved the town manager's recommendation to select GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc. as the town's on-call professional engineering firm following an RFQ that produced seven bids.

Town Manager (speaker 10) told the council the selection committee ranked GZA at or near the top of the proposals and recommended a contract term running from 07/01/2026 through 06/30/2029. The manager noted GZA's experience with state regulatory agencies and earlier Hopkinton projects in the firm's references.

Councilors raised concerns about continuity on several ongoing, town-owned projects for which the incumbent firm (Crossman/Crossland in the discussion) had prepared bid documents and designs. The manager and council asked staff to include transitional language in the GZA contract to allow Crossman to continue working on a limited set of named town projects until they conclude; the manager suggested documenting the specific projects and timeframe in writing so the town avoids duplicate billing and rework.

A councilor moved to approve the manager's recommendation; the motion was seconded and approved on roll call. Councilors also requested that representatives of the selected firm appear at a subsequent meeting to introduce themselves and answer questions about the transition plan.

Contract specifics: The manager identified GZA as the recommended firm and recommended a three-year on-call term; further contract details, transition agreements and project lists will be finalized and included in the formal contract to be executed by the town.
