Library board approves $204,534 siding replacement contract for Jack Russell Memorial Library

Randy Wojtasiak, director of parks and recreation, presented the bid and told the board the price was well below the original COVID-era estimate. Building Supervisor Brian Wirth said most of the east and south siding has been damaged by weather. He told the board the siding product was new when the building was constructed and was intended to last 40 years; the east side had been replaced under warranty within two years, but Wirth said the original installer has since gone bankrupt and cannot support the warranty.
Wojtasiak and Wirth said the city received only a single bid because the solicitation began without an engineer on staff and many contractors’ schedules are full for the year. The siding product specified for the replacement carries a 40-year guarantee, the board was told. The project is expected to proceed this fall after formal approval by the City Council next week.
Mr. Allen Brown moved to approve the D&H Royale Construction quote “as proposed”; Mr. Craig Westfall seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
The board also announced its next regular meeting for Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at 4:30 PM in the JRML Community Room and adjourned at 4:58 PM following a motion by Mr. Jamie Wolman and a second from Mr. Allen Brown. Administrative Services Assistant Kayla Claas entered the minutes for the record.
