Dickinson Township updates Ridge Road topcoat plans, composting talks and Barnitz Mill condition

At the Sept. 16 meeting Public Works Director Glenn Kelso updated the board on multiple infrastructure and facility topics, including Ridge Road, composting and the Barnitz Mill.
Kelso said the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will apply a 2A top coat over the shale on Ridge Road; a site visit will be scheduled in late September or October to inspect the final section and the township hopes to finish the project by the end of the year. He noted significant pipe work was done to route stormwater where needed.
On composting and yard-waste, Kelso said he continues discussions with surrounding townships to determine how a shared program might work following the end of Cumberland County—s yard-waste program. No final plan or funding arrangement was reported.
Regarding Barnitz Mill, Kelso said he met with Elizabeth Grant of the Friends of Barnitz and that professionals who inspected the building estimated around $50,000 to demolish the mill and take rights to the reclaimed wood. He said multiple people reported little of monetary value remains inside and that the structure is not in good shape.
