Dickinson Township awards trash and recycling contract to Apple Valley

Dickinson Township's Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Aug. 19 to award a new trash and recycling contract to Apple Valley, Public Works Director Glenn Kelso told the board. The contract will begin April 1, 2025.
Kelso said Apple Valley's bid was substantially lower than Waste Management's and below the township's current rates for both the toter and bag/tag service options. The board approved the award under Option #1, keeping the current service level: toter collection, a bag (rather than a tag) alternative, weekly recycling and one large item pickup per week.
Kelso said the township will provide a transition flyer to residents explaining how to swap old toters from Waste Management for new Apple Valley toters and that the township will not be involved in customer billing. Don Isabella, a Waste Management representative in attendance, said he will continue to work with the township through the end of Waste Management's contract and wished the township well with Apple Valley.
Chairman Rob Kole made the motion to award the contract and Supervisor Jen DeGaetano seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The minutes do not record the exact per-household rates quoted by Apple Valley or Waste Management, only that Apple Valley's rates were considerably lower than Waste Management's and lower than current township rates.
