Hewitt awards $30,023 chip-seal contract, tables crack-fill bids and approves minor drainage work

The Village of Hewitt Board on April 8 opened bids for crack filling and chip sealing and approved a chip-seal contract while deferring other road work approvals. Trustee Dan Sommers moved to approve Scott Construction's chip-seal bid in the amount of $30,023; Trustee Tom Iwanski seconded and the motion carried. The Board tabled approval of crack-fill bids pending additional information from bidders.
Roads committee discussion covered routine street maintenance: curb sweeping scheduled three times this year (contractor contact with Whirlwind planned), weed control before sweeping, pothole patching needs along McLean and near 10847 W. 7th Street, and estimates to repair pavement spots at 10817 and 10829 W. 9th Street. Trustees also reviewed draft roadside ditch drain-tile installation guidelines.
In a separate motion Trustee Tom Iwanski moved to reconsider drain ditching at the corner of Main Street and McLean and authorized spending up to $100 to reestablish appropriate drainage; Trustee Dan Sommers seconded and the motion carried. The Board also noted a Yellowstone Park resurfacing request for bids has been prepared for posting.
What’s next: Roads committee to obtain additional details from crack-fill bidders and proceed with the contracted chip-seal work; a special Board meeting is scheduled April 22 for follow-up on outstanding items.
