Hewitt board discusses Yellowstone Park parking-lot resurfacing; $25,000 budget set aside

At the March 11, 2026 Village of Hewitt Board meeting members discussed potential resurfacing of the Yellowstone Park parking lot. The minutes note that during the 2026 budget process the board set aside up to $25,000 to be used for the parking lot and/or weed control at the park.
Committee reports covered general street maintenance, planned notices to residents about chip sealing and anticipated 2027 work that could affect culverts or drain tile, and a suggestion to use any remaining 2026 road funds for Maple Lane. The trails committee plans cleanup of downed branches and will make cut wood available for residents; a snow fence will be installed along part of the trail in the fall.
The board also listed 2026 follow-up projects including addressing a junk yard at the end of Birch Street and an abandoned house and barn on Main Street. Other routine items recorded in the minutes include banner reprints at Heinzen’s Printing, purchase of new flags and poles, and proposed electronic-sign messages for upcoming community events.
Next steps and dates noted: Open Book is scheduled for April 30, 2026, Board of Review on May 7, 2026, and the board’s next regular meeting is April 8, 2026.
