Hewitt reviews phosphorus plan, lift-station repairs and seeks new sludge-hauling sites

The Board reviewed sanitary-system operations and compliance work at the April 8 meeting. Trustees discussed a preliminary facility plan from consultant Roth related to phosphorus compliance; Board comments were incorporated into an updated document that Roth planned to resubmit.
Operational items included lift-station issues: Staab provided an estimate for a 5th Street lift-station pump (further discussion scheduled for May), the 2nd Street pump was repaired and reinstalled under warranty, and the pump at McLean and County Trunk T was found inoperable and replaced. The minutes record that chloride pilot testing has begun; samples are currently collected Monday through Thursday at 10:30 a.m., moving to Tuesday–Friday sampling in May, with early results indicating lower chloride levels. The next training session on wasting process and sample testing was scheduled for April 17 at 11:00 a.m.
The Board noted that the land currently being used for sludge hauling can no longer be used under EPA guidance and that other land sites are being pursued; Stevens Point area was mentioned as a possible alternative. The Village will continue to seek additional land in the area.
What’s next: Trustees plan to revisit lift-station estimates in May and await Roth’s updated phosphorus-compliance plan.
