At the April 8 Village of Hewitt Board meeting the Hewitt Area Fire Commission reported multiple operational updates from its April 6 meeting. The commission clarified that funds previously designated for Easter supplies will be repurposed for member appreciation going forward.
Commission representatives told the Board that the department is waiting to learn how much insurance will cover for a foam-system pump; the minutes show that the issue remains unresolved. The commission also reported that it passed an ISO review; the next ISO review will be in June. Members noted recent and upcoming community events, including an Easter egg hunt that drew about 75 children and a soup fundraiser scheduled for April 11.
The commission proposed a restructuring of fees charged when apparatus respond to incidents: $500 for a fire engine, $300 for a tanker, and $400 for a brush truck, described as being more in line with other municipalities. The minutes state the commission intends to bill insurers directly and that it was suggested a copy of the bill also be sent to the resident. Changes to the Fire Commission by-laws (Articles 3.1, 2.1, and 16.3) were discussed and tabled pending further clarification about insurance coverage and costs of bonding the commission clerk.
