Hewitt Board administers oaths, approves finances and adopts neglected-property ordinance

The Village of Hewitt Board met April 8, 2026, and President Marlene Stueland called the session to order at 6:30 p.m. Trustees Tom Iwanski and Dan Sommers were present; Heather Gehrt and Cassie Horn were recorded as absent. President Stueland administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Trustees Dan Sommers and Travis Wienke; the minutes note Travis will take office after April 20.
Trustee Dan Sommers moved to approve the March 11, 2026 minutes with one correction; Trustee Tom Iwanski seconded and the motion carried. The Board also approved the minutes of the March 25, 2026 special meeting. Later in the meeting the trustees reviewed the treasurer's report and approved bills as submitted, totaling $65,358.03.
Under old business the Board approved the third reading of Ordinance 2016-01, the Village's Neglected/Unkempt Property Ordinance, on a motion by Trustee Iwanski and a second by Trustee Sommers; the minutes record the motion as carried. The Board also noted that Marlene Stueland is exploring loan-renewal options with First State Bank for the Yellowstone Drive project and that the 2025 year-end state financial report has been submitted.
The Board set several upcoming dates: a special meeting on April 22, the Open Book on April 30, the Board of Review on May 7, and the next regular Village Board meeting on May 13. The meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
What’s next: The Board will meet April 22 for a special session; the trustee-elect, Travis Wienke, is scheduled to assume office after April 20.
