Cochran City Council terminates interim city clerk in emergency meeting

The Cochran City Council voted unanimously May 27 to terminate Interim City Clerk Tiffany Lampp Fowler effective immediately, the council’s minutes show. Mayor Pro Tem Shane Savant moved to terminate Fowler; Councilman Rufus Veal seconded the motion and the council approved it unanimously.
Mayor Carla Coley called the emergency meeting to order at 4:02 p.m. and Mayor Pro Tem Shane Savant led the invocation. Council members amended the agenda to add an executive session; Councilwoman Dianne Lester moved to amend the agenda, and Councilman Lonnie Tedders seconded. The amended agenda was approved and the council entered executive session at 4:07 p.m. for a personnel matter on a motion by Councilman Gary Ates, seconded by Councilman Lonnie Tedders.
The council reconvened the regular meeting at 4:38 p.m., at which point the motion to terminate Interim City Clerk Tiffany Lampp Fowler was made and approved. The meeting was adjourned at 4:40 p.m. on a motion by Councilman Gary Ates, seconded by Councilman Lonnie Tedders.
Attending officials listed in the minutes were Mayor Carla Coley; Mayor Pro Tem Shane Savant; Councilmembers Trecia Gardner, Gary Ates, Rufus Veal, Lonnie Tedders and Dianne Lester; Interim City Manager Angela Redding; and City Attorney Jim Elliott (via Zoom).
The minutes note that “special circumstances” made 24-hour advance notice unreasonable; notice of the meeting was posted on the city website, on the door at the City Auditorium, and provided to the newspaper.
