Hewitt Area Fire Commission reports new doors, valve repairs and suppression-system replacement plan

The Hewitt Area Fire Commission told the Board on Feb. 11 that several maintenance and safety items are underway at the fire station, including incoming new doors and replaced valves on a fire truck.
Minutes record that the fire suppression system is not working and the Commission plans to replace it using surplus funds from the 2025 budget while they check whether insurance might cover part of the cost. The Commission also noted that the station’s locks are not functioning well in cold weather and may need replacement.
The Commission reported one instance of unauthorized burning in the wooded area behind 6th Street; members reminded that Village regulations allow only fire pits for burning. The Commission’s next meeting was scheduled for April 13 at 7:00 p.m.
Board members were asked to review Ordinance 16.01 and the Fire Commission secretary job description ahead of the March meeting to ensure the department by-laws align with the ordinance.
