Hewitt Board hears sanitary-system problems; schedules chloride sampling and explores new sludge sites

Village officials told the Board on Feb. 11 that several sanitary-system issues need attention, including a failing heating system on the HiCore unit and a wiring problem on a pump at the 5th Street lift station.
Minutes show the HiCore unit’s heating system is not working correctly and that the installation date is uncertain; board materials indicate the unit may require replacement. One pump at the 5th Street lift station was diagnosed as having a wiring problem, with repairs deferred to the spring.
The Board reviewed the 2025 Annual Chloride Variance Report, which has been submitted to the DNR. President Marlene Stueland suggested collecting monthly chloride samples on different weekdays during February and March to determine whether weekend or early-week sampling yields different chloride levels. The Board also reviewed correspondence from Jonathan Hill of Roth Professional Solutions on phosphorus compliance planning.
A sludge-hauling report was submitted and the Village said it will continue seeking additional land sites in the Stevens Point area that might accept hauled sludge. No funding action was recorded for capital replacement or immediate repairs at the meeting; a $1,000 consulting request for the treatment plant was tabled for further consideration.
Board members recorded these items for follow-up at future meetings and noted repairs (pump wiring) are expected in spring.
