Middleton Health Department moves to new Town Hall; director reports open septic plan and internship possibility

Public Health Director Traci Mello updated the Middleton Board of Health on staffing and administrative items at the March 11 meeting.
Mello said the department relocated to the new Town Hall at 105 South Main Street on March 2; the nurse's office is on the first floor and the inspector, administrative assistants, shared service coordinator and the director are on the second floor. She reported she has not received a septic plan for 221 South Main Street (Starbuck's Plaza), noting that the system at that location is being pumped weekly and as needed; Chuck Johnson will serve as the town's peer reviewer for that plan.
Mello also said the nine-month Massachusetts Health Officers Association (MHOA) internship ends March 31 and the town is discussing hiring the intern on a part-time basis with salary partly subsidized by MHOA for up to 16 months. Preliminary discussions with the town administrator and HR are underway.
The board set its next meeting for May 6, 2026.
