Selectmen authorize replacement town equipment, approve gym use for craft fair and seek webmaster applicants

Town Clerk Lisa M. Young told the Selectmen she needs a replacement computer because the current unit is the state-issued machine used for the Central Voter Registration System. IT contractor Don Fowles advised ordering a replacement now but delaying setup until after the June primary to avoid disrupting the voter system. Selectman Daniel Staples moved to approve the purchase of a new computer for the Clerk's office; Selectman Laurie Haynes seconded the motion and it carried 5-0-0.

The board approved use of the community center gym on September 6, 2014, for a craft fair with table rental proceeds to benefit the Cushing Heating Fund. Selectman Daniel Staples moved to approve the reservation; Selectman Robert Worthing seconded and the motion carried 5-0-0. Selectman Laurie Haynes will submit required paperwork; the board discussed insurance and whether the Selectmen would sponsor the event and deferred a final sponsorship decision to the next meeting.

Chairman Alton Grover reported that the town's vacuum was beyond economical repair and the board directed him to purchase a replacement; a salesman quoted $499 for a new unit. The board also received an email from Brooke Harrington expressing interest in serving as town webmaster; the Selectmen unanimously agreed to solicit interest from all residents and asked Chester Knowles to post the notice by email.

Chairman Grover noted that Maine DOT reported a short closure of River Road (2–3 days) near Irene Vinal's at the end of June or in July for culvert replacement; the Selectmen did not take further action on the road closure during the meeting.
