Versailles council adopts emergency budget amendment, approves sewer change order and assessment board appointments

At its June 22 meeting the Versailles Village Council approved Ordinance No. 26-35 (an emergency amendment to the 2026 appropriations), accepted Change Order #1 reducing the South Center Street sewer contract by $18,551.45, authorized an Assessment Equalization Board for the W. Wood Street reconstruction and appointed three members, and approved a Sept. 26 park event.
The Versailles Village Council voted June 22 to adopt Ordinance No. 26-35, an emergency amendment to the village's 2026 Annual Appropriation Ordinance. Attorney Matt Pierron read the ordinance for the second and third times; Council Member Griesdorn moved to have it read by title only and declare an emergency, a motion that was seconded and carried. A subsequent motion to approve the ordinance was moved by Council Member Steinbrunner and seconded by Council Member Weaver and passed with yeas recorded.
The council also approved Change Order #1 for the South Center Street Area Sanitary Sewer Improvements project with Shinn Bros., Inc., decreasing the contract by $18,551.45 to a final contract amount of $318,448.55. Council Member Griesdorn made the motion to approve the change order; Council Member Dieringer seconded and the motion carried.
To address assessment appeals for an upcoming street project, council authorized creation of an Assessment Equalization Board to hear objections related to the W. Wood Street Area Street Reconstruction Project. The council then appointed Robert Batty, Tim Wagner, and Jerome Bey III to serve on the board; the appointments were moved and seconded and the motions passed.
Council also approved a request from LifeWise Versailles to host a pickleball tournament and other activities at Ward Park on Sept. 26, 2026. The motion was moved by Council Member Weaver and seconded by Council Member Pepple and was carried.
No roll-call vote tallies with individual votes were recorded in the minutes beyond the motion makers and the notation "yeas; motion carried." Resolution No. 26-36, concerning zoning-code amendments, was read for a first reading and will return for a second reading at the next meeting.
What's next: Resolution 26-36 will be read again at the next council meeting; the Assessment Equalization Board will convene if objections are filed for the W. Wood Street reconstruction project.
