Gunnison County updates local liquor fees and reauthorizes in-store tastings

Gunnison County commissioners on June 16 adopted Resolution 2026-20, updating local liquor license fees and reauthorizing alcoholic beverage tastings in unincorporated Gunnison County.
Clerk and Recorder Kathy Simillion told the Board that changes at the state level required the county to adjust its fee schedule and licensing language. "We met with the Attorney's office due to the statute changes from the State and relayed there needed to be some adjustment," Simillion said during the discussion. The resolution repeals Resolutions 2016-12 and 2016-13 and directs that local fees be kept consistent with the fees established in Colorado law going forward.
The resolution also uses the authority in C.R.S. §44-3-301(10) to reauthorize alcoholic beverage tastings by licensed retail liquor stores and certain retailers in unincorporated county areas, subject to statutory limitations and any local application and annual tasting-license fee. The resolution specifies that a separate Tastings License, valid for one year, is required and that violations may result in suspension or revocation of both the Tastings License and the holder's retail license.
Commissioners moved to approve the resolution on a unanimous vote. Chairperson Laura Puckett Daniels, Vice-Chair Elizabeth Smith and Commissioner Jonathan Houck all voted yes.
What it means: Retailers in unincorporated Gunnison County who wish to offer tastings must apply for the county's Tastings License and comply with state and local conditions. The county will post any fee changes adopted by the State in the Clerk and Recorder's office as required by the resolution.
