Hilbert board declines to split driveway cut-out cost after builder appeal

The Village of Hilbert Board on Aug. 12 rejected a motion to have the village pay half of a $448.50 driveway cut-out for a Village Meadows home after the builder said the homeowner lacked sufficient notice; the board found the resident had not marked the driveway and followed statutory notice procedures.
President Tom Roehrig and the Village Board rejected a reimbursement request tied to the 2025 Village Meadows street project after debate on Aug. 12.
Craig Weyenberg, the builder for homeowner Cameron Hudziak, asked the board to reimburse the homeowner for a driveway cut-out, saying the resident and builder were not given adequate notice about marking the driveway. Missy Kieso told the board that letters sent to subdivision residents followed state statutes and that Hudziak was the only resident who did not mark the driveway; under those circumstances Kieso said the homeowner was responsible for the full cost.
A motion by Collins, seconded by M. Loose, asked the Village to pay half of the $448.50 driveway cut-out. The motion failed by a vote of 3 to 2.
President Roehrig said the Village will continue to follow existing procedures but that the Streets Committee can review whether the notification or marking process should be revised for future projects. No further action was taken at the Aug. 12 meeting.
