Hilbert to remodel park bathrooms, hire engineer; paint donated and bubbler to be removed

The Village of Hilbert on April 15 approved moving forward with a remodel of the park bathroom and authorized Robert E. Lee and Associates to produce engineering plans. Board member A. Loose, representing the Park & Recreation Committee, said the committee prefers remodeling the existing facility rather than building a new one, and cited an estimated remodel cost of approximately $250,000 with $150,000 currently in the project fund.
The board approved the recommendation on a motion by Board member Collins, seconded by Board member Pulley. Board members discussed seeking donations to offset costs; President Tom Roehrig offered to donate paint for an interim exterior refresh, and volunteers were identified to provide painting labor at no charge. The board approved repainting the outside of the bathroom building with donated paint and donated labor.
Separately, the board approved removing the Community Center bubbler and not replacing it. A. Loose noted the bubbler "is not being used often enough" and Plate recommended hiring a plumber to do the removal properly; Plate said he would contact a plumber to arrange removal.
A request from Gospelfest to add a door to the big pavilion for easier access to freezers was discussed but tabled pending committee follow-up and cost estimates; Thiel and A. Loose will explore donated options. The board also approved placing an ad to hire summer help for park ballfield maintenance; applicants must be at least 16 because of insurance requirements.
